Goodbye 2014 Hello 2015

It's another New Years Eve and 2014 feels like the blurriest, fastest year of my life. It was a great one with Porter's birth being the most gigantic event in the past twelve months, and it sort of feels like his year. Year of Porter, indeed. Adding another healthy, happy baby into our family really trumps everything else that 2014 could produce in a year end review.

But believe it or not, other things did happen besides Porter. We celebrated seven years of marriage and twelve years as a couple, we bought my beloved mini-van, celebrated Truman's fourth birthday and four years as parents, celebrated Miss Cecelia's second birthday, a new job for Nate, a great maternity leave for me, and first day of school for Truman. We finally finished our DIY basement renovation and I focused a lot of my 'home project' energy on nursery decorating. There were countless visits from my Mom and Memaw, time spent with Pepaw, my dad and my brother and Nate's brother---all of our favorite out-of-state family members made memories in Wisconsin this year, which is something we do not take for granted!

This blog became a place for moms making it work with my guest series. I posted my face off during the first half of the year and am now adjusting to very infrequent updates on the old bloggity blog, although I miss it dearly.

Looking back at my pictures from 2014 made me realize that there were some undesirable health issues in our family, nothing too serious but just enough to make us grateful for ordinary, healthy days. Truman and I both had strep throat and also pneumonia at different times: he had both simultaneously and my go rounds were separate but during pregnancy so therefore less than fun. Truman had his first trip to Urgent Care because of that double whammy and Porter brought our first trip to Children's ER with a virus and fever right at his two month birthday. Both Truman and Cecelia had plenty stomach bugs and I cleaned up my fair share of kid puke this year, something I could certainly go without in 2015 but I'm sure the fun has only just begun with three kids.

Nate and I both turned thirty-three this year and I'm definitely reaching the age when each birthday feels like a gift. Each new year brings the promise of a fresh start, another chapter in this amazingly hectic and wonderful life. 2014 was the year of Porter and each even-numbered year since 2010 has been the year-of-the-newborn-baby. 2015 will be an adjustment year: no new baby, no big changes planned, but a time to settle into a routine as a family of five. I can't predict how next year will treat us but we can only hope it will be as fabulous as 2014. Minus the kid puke, the strep and the pneumonia, of course.

10 on 10 April 2014

10 pictures on the 10th day of the month!

{Document a snapshot of your life & find beauty among the ordinary things in your day!}
ten on ten button
Happy 10th of April.
So glad it is the 10th....that means 1 more day until Spring Break.

Here is a sneak peek of our day!
Kate has been making her bed every morning for the past few months. I love it. I don't know where she learned that from since I rarely make our bed in the morning...especially during the school week.
But, hey! I won't complain! Love my OCD girl :)
Breakfast at school. I eat a Luna bar EVERY.SINGLE.DAY during first period. This is my current favorite flavor.
I gave a test today & am trying to get them graded before Spring Break (1 more day!). Grading tests is more fun when you grade them with colorful sharpies :)
I love Thursdays because I am done teaching at 11:30. Then I get to pick up Luke, put him down for a nap and eat my lunch in a quiet house while the girls are at school. Today's lunch was corn tortilla quesadillas with Trader Joe's Greek yogurt guacamole. So good!
Loading the dishwasher. My least favorite chore (besides unloading the dish washer & folding laundry) At least the dishes are pretty.
Flowers that Kevin gave me earlier this week. I love fresh flowers.
Picked up Kate from school and while we waited for Claire to get out, she did her homework in the car like we do everyday. Fun times.
After school we went on an errand to the party store because I am throwing my sister a baby shower on Saturday and haven't gotten ANYTHING ready for it. Procrasitnators unite! I was so happy to see 4th of July things out...that means.....It's almost summer!
Iced Coffee was necessary today. 80 degrees. A Thursday. Almost Spring Break.
Want to know what I always order when the weather is nice? An Iced Grande Non Fat Vanilla Latte, but then I ask for it in a Venti Cup so that I get extra ice! I love extra ice.
Lukey watching some Mickey Mouse Clubhouse while I made dinner.
+++++++++++++

Don't forget, 1 more day to enter the Rodan + Fields Giveaway {HERE}
AND
Just a reminder that for all Rodan + Fields orders placed by midnight on Friday April 11th, all proceeds will go to my friend Anna's adoption!

Today was also National Sibling Day, so here is a bonus photo of what I posted on Facebook.
Throwback Thursday to my wedding almost 12 years ago.
I love my sisters!
Hope you had a good 10th....Spring Break.....1 more day!!!
Can you tell I am excited?!?!

Tie Dyed Easter Eggs 2014 Edition

Yesterday the girls and I made our annual Tie Dyed Easter Eggs.
Here are the ties that we picked out to use:
Last month, we cleaned out Kevin's clothes and got rid of the majority of his wardrobe, including tons of his ties. I didn't give away the ties, instead I kept them for making our Tie-Dyed Eggs.

Tutorial on how to make the Tie Dyed Eggs {HERE}

Here are the ties cut up and wrapped around the eggs:
Here are the eggs after they have been Tie Dyed:
 Egg #1
 Egg #2:
Egg #3
Egg #4

 Eggs #5, #6 and #7
TOTAL FAIL. I don't know what happened to these eggs. The colors didn't transfer at all.
I have never had more than 1 flop a year. Don't know what happened to these ones.
I was going to toss them out, but decided to keep them, they have a perfect analogy for us on Good Friday.
The eggs that didn't keep the color are a good reminder that these eggs aren't perfect.
Neither am I. And, neither are you.
Which is why, today.....on Good Friday I am so thankful that Jesus died on the cross for me and for you. Even though we are far from perfect, God sent his one and only perfect Son to die on the cross for us.
I'm thankful for the cross....but, I'm even more thankful that Sunday is coming!
So glad we get to celebrate our risen Savior this weekend!
Happy Easter!

World Series 2014

As you may know, I am a huge, huge, huge San Francisco Giants fan.
Growing up in the Bay Area, we have 2 baseball teams, the Oakland A's & the San Fransisco Giants.
I have always been a Giants fan along with my entire family.
I'll never forget going to my first Giants game as a kid, at Candlestick Park.
I went with my parents, sisters and my aunts, uncles & cousins.
It was Mother's Cookies Baseball card day (anybody else remember those?) I remember being so excited that I got a Will Clark baseball card. I still have it!
The past 5 years have been really fun being a Giants fan because we won the World Series in 2010 and also in 2012. And, this year 2014 we are in the World Series again!
One of the items on my "Bucket List" was to go to a World Series game that the Giants were playing in. I was able to cross that item off my bucket list in 2010.
You can read about it {HERE}
The only problem about that was that Kevin didn't go to that game with me. The whole time I was there in 2010, I was wishing he got to experience it also.
When the Giants made it to the NLCS this year, I told Kevin that if they go to the World Series, then I am going to buy us tickets so that we can go (Thank you Rodan + Fields for my extra spending money!)
Well, sure enough, the Giants beat St. Louis and were going to the World Series! I bought us tickets for last Friday night.
Friday was a beautiful day in San Francisco. The weather was perfect.
We took Bart into the city & got off at the Ferry Building so that we could walk along the water on our way to the Ball Park.
The walk along the water was so fun...tons of people walking to the game & of course the views of the Bay Bridge were spectacular.
Loved seeing the Fire Engines with Giants flags!
Kevin's sister and her husband were also going to the game and as we were walking to the Ball Park my brother in law texted us to tell us that he just met Willie Mays & shook his hand! What?!?! Willie Mays is a San Fransisco Giants legend! Mike said that he parked right next to him in the Parking Lot.
Here is a pic of Mike next to Willie Mays car.
So once we got to the parking lot, the 4 of us took a selfie and texted it to the rest of our family saying that we wish they were there :)
It's always sur-real walking into the Ball Park for a World Series game. The energy is amazing.
I love that we are playing the Kansas City Royals....I love that they haven't been to the World Series in 30 years and that both the Giants & Royals were both the Wild Card teams this year.

As we first got into the Ball Park....so excited! Could our smiles BE any bigger?
Announcing the starting line ups:
During the  Star Spangled Banner they had a huge flag on the field:
Little Big Town sung the National Anthem. They were amazing. I tear up everytime I hear the National Anthem.
As the National Anthem finished playing 2 Blue Angels jets flew over the stadium. CHILLS!
Time to play ball! Cheers to a $12 beer & souvenir cup!
Kansas City got off to an early lead, so that was kind off a bummer.
Our favorite Ball Park sandwich. San Fransicso style Philly Cheese Steak with Tri Tip & Hot Peppers. YUM!

I get this sandwich everytime I go to a Giants game.
If you've never been to a Giants game, I recommend going, we have such a beautiful stadium, right on the water.
 So beautiful.
McCovey Cove is right behind the Park & that is where some home runs land.
You can see all the people in their kayaks waiting for a homerun to land in the water
 More views of the park:
It was a close game 3-2 with the Royals in the lead.
In the 8th inning we almost tied up the game....we all had our orange rally rags out.
 Nail biting game!
We ended up losing 3-2 but it was still a fun night & memorable experience.
So glad I got to experience a World Series Game with Kevin!
 Game 7 is tonight.
The Royals kicked our butts last night so now the series is tied 3-3.
I am so stressed out about the game that I even had a dream about it last night!!! #issues
Will you be watching tonight?
Who are you rooting for?
(It's okay if you say Kansas City....we can still be friends!)
Usually, I love rooting for the underdog like the Royals, but not this year since they are playing my team!
