Little girl loves to Hook Em Horns
We're a family who loves the University of Texas.
Hook 'Em Horns all the way!
This summer, our daughter Grace learned how to make her hands into the Hook 'Em sign, and she was so excited to show everyone at my family reunion. Everyone "oohed" and "aaaahed" at her cuteness, except for Uncle Tommy. Apparently my younger brother is Red Raiders fan. While Grace was flashing her Hook 'Ems, he kept trying to get her to make Tech's sign. But to no avail. She is forever a Longhorns fan. #HookEm
UT plays Tech this weekend - Go Longhorns! Go, fight, win!

a little break from the baby posts
Whew, let's move on for a second, shall we? A little miscellany will do, in 'real time' none the less.
1. Do you guys ever watch Conan O'Brien's 'What if they mated?' segment? Well, Nate gets easily distracted when he takes my weekly belly shots. Last week he was on a mission to get the best cross eyed face ever on camera. He was so proud of himself, you guys. And of course, not to be outdone, I had to try my own cross eyes. But looking at these pictures I just keep thinking, "Are these two really going to be parents?"
Do you think our kid will be cute?
2. When we were down in St. Louis last weekend, Maggie bought the baby his/her first gift. I am totally obsessed. In fact, it almost made me cry. It's so tiny and perfect and I CANNOT WAIT to have a little human being sporting this thing when we go on long jogs together.
3. Oh yeah, remember how I was in a wedding last weekend? Well, I took about 200 pictures and will show you a few here. Lindsey was a STUNNING bride. She was fairly calm the whole time until we were in the limo on the way to the church. Then she was slightly nervous but of course, us bridesmaids did our best to keep her sane. It was unseasonable cool weather for August and simply gorgeous outside. I could go on, but let's just look at pretty pictures.
Her hair was amazing.
This is my favorite pic from the day. Very 'Linds'.
Isn't her dress gorgeous? And her lace veil (I'm partial, since mine was similar) was her mom's actual veil from 30 years ago. LOVE.
Me and the bride. I will not comment on how huge my boobs look in this picture. I have never filled out a strapless dress before, you guys.
They were married at College Church, St. Francis Xavier---the gorge church on SLU's campus, where we all met in school. Nate took this picture and it's pretty amazing, eh?
Our flowers were fab.
Kim was present in spirit and with her paper head again. Do you see her in this picture, poking out from behind me?
Me and the hubs. It's hard to get a picture with us both in it since a lot of folks are a little frightened of our beastly camera, but I really like this one.
And finally, the last of the Fab Five is married. I've successfully managed to get a picture of the five of us at every single wedding. Thinking of making all of them into a frame of sorts because I just can't get over how 'adult-like' we are now! One of us is living in South Korea, two of us are pregnant, and the other two are newlyweds. So weird. Love these girls.
So that's that. Life outside of belly pics. Hope everyone is enjoying this frigid cold weather in AUGUST as much as me. :)

a little bit of brady 26 weeks christmas sugar cookies
sitting here with the laptop resting on my (giant) 26 week belly.. sugar cookie in hand and brushing sprinkles from the keyboard while I remember the time (and mess) I spent with my girls this weekend.
making memories while making a mess. this is the last holiday season spent with just girls in the house. so much is about to change and while I get emotional worrying about all this change, I literally cannot wait to meet this sweet boy growing in my belly. when imagining how I wanted to celebrate this big ol' bump and the tail end of my second trimester I decided to include the girls and totally embrace the holiday season for all its worth!
whats more Christmas-y than baking cookies??

I snagged this sugar cookie recipe off Jessica's blog and it was the most simple + basic and delicious cookie recipe I have ever made! the cookies bake up super soft and perfectly sturdy to hold pounds of icing and sprinkles.
after letting the dough hang out in the fridge for a couple hours it was time to cut + bake + ice some Christmas goodies!

my belly. there it is.
and its legit.
some days I wake up and I'm "okay" with how big I've gotten over the last several weeks.. and then there are those times at the end of the day that I catch a glimpse of myself in the hanging mirror in our room and I'm like, HOLY MOLY what am I going to look like at the end of all this growing a baby business.

buttercream icing
1 stick softened, salted butter
2-3 cups powdered sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
pinch of salt
1/4 cup of half and half or milk
Combine all ingredients in a bowl & blend with a hand mixer.

26 week belly + baby update

now that we've covered all the sugar cookie bases, lets talk baby and belly!
Brady's "B" initial hat came in the mail and I about died thinking I'll have my fourth baby wearing this beanie home from the hospital. all the feels, you guys!!
I went for my 26 week check up this week which included a sonogram to take a peek at Brady's kidney's again. last month we discovered some mild pockets of fluid, and while this is really common in boys (apparently from what my OB tells me) its something that will need to be monitored and watched closely. the sonogram this week showed that there is still some fluid on his kidneys, around the right more than the left, but it isn't too much worry about at this point. other than that, he's healthy and growing strong! Brady has gained an entire pound since last month- weighing in at 2 pounds + 5 ounces with a healthy heartbeat at 140 bpm!
his little profile + button nose is just THE sweetest and definitely reminds me most of Baker and Parker.

As for this mama, my OB is more concerned at this point about the amount of amniotic fluid I've got.. which is why I look and measure more like I'm 33 weeks (boom) rather than just the 26 weeks I actually am. and also why complete strangers are prompted to share their swirling thoughts about my bump on a daily basis. apparently polyhydramnios occurs in about 1% of pregnancies and here I am diagnosed again for my second pregnancy in a row. I had a mild case with Baker, measuring on the high end of "normal" from about 28 weeks through to delivery. around 34-35 weeks my body kind of figured itself out on its own and levels balanced and we delivered a healthy baby girl at term.
there isn't anything to prevent it, and this time around its happened sooner and with much more fluid than the case I had in my pregnancy with Baker. my OB mentioned that this could actually be the sole reason for the fluid on Brady's kidneys. I go back to the perinatologist next week and then I'll be making trips to my OB's office every other week to monitor until my weekly visits start. I took my glucose test, too! here's hoping that gestational diabetes isn't the reason for my increased fluid levels:)

so many parts of my mama heart wants to worry about this.. fret + cry about the thought of something "being wrong" with me or my baby boy. a google search, which was a big fat mistake on my part, did me no good but freak me out even more when I saw complications like still birth and preterm labor listed under the risks of this diagnosis. I have so much confidence in my doctor and know that she has everyone's best interest at heart and will watch this and make sure nothing will happen to the best of her 26 years of experience.
praying for peace in the plans laid in front of us and thankful for the wisdom of the medical professionals managing my care.. and Brady's care, too! this boy wriggles all day long, so I know that if he stops for a prolonged period of time that I'll be making a trip to check on him asap.

so thankful for my life right now. the growing baby inside of my, albeit huge, belly and the girls that are running around at my feet.
my cup is full this holiday season.
so much magic and joy and love to be shared!

four more sleeps!

Worth it in the little moments
Friday | June 13, 2014
This morning, both of my kids slept in extra late....because it's a work day, of course (and it won't ever happen on a weekend). I watched the video monitor as Truman started to stir finally around 7:30. Baby girl was still passed out, looking extra angelic. Both of them have been sleeping so well lately, it's hard not to feel extra in love while watching them snooze. Especially when I know how exhausted I am just being a pregnant mom, and those two are a constant blur of activity---learning and taking in the world around them. I'm tired just thinking about how tired they must be when they sleep.
Truman climbed down from the top bunk and I saw him stand next to Cecelia's bottom bed. He seemed to talk to her a bit but I couldn't hear him. She stirred and rolled over, then sat up in her bed. Truman lingered there a bit and I heard CC start to whine, so I headed upstairs.
When I got into their room, I didn't see Truman standing there anymore. 'Good morning, guys,' I said as I looked around for T, and opened the shades.
'Hi, Mommy. I'm in CC's bed with her,' he told me. Sure enough, my two little beings were sitting together in Cecelia's bed. Both looking mighty small and so innocent.
'She was still tired and whining, so I asked her if she wanted me to lay with her a little bit. She said 'yeah' so I'm here with her now,' my big helper informed me.
Cecelia looked over to me with a grin and shook her head 'yes' when I asked if she liked have Truman lay with her.
And then my heart exploded.
These two kids regularly make me want to cry---sometimes happy tears, like today, and other times out of frustration. But that Truman and his caregiver heart towards his sister? I can barely take it. That's just him---nothing we can take credit for instilling in this child. He is just sensitive and loving and empathetic....some of the time, at least. He is 'already' four but he's 'only' four, as I constantly remind myself.
I dropped them off at Lori's and got two very special hugs and kisses from two very special children. Truman paused, ran back over to me, and hugged and kissed my belly saying, 'Bye, baby. I love you, too.'
Thank you, God, for this sweet child of mine. And for his sister and for his unborn baby brother. Being their mother is the best and the hardest and worth it.

(kissing her owie)
